Gerhard Hofer was born in 1969 in Wels – Austria.
From 1984 till 1991 he studied piano at Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and afterwards at the Music University in Vienna, where he obtained his Diploma in piano education with distinction, in 1993. After that, he continued studying piano chamber music at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg by the Professors Erika Frieser, Andor Losonczy, Christoph Lieske and Claudius Tanski, obtaining his artistic diploma in 2000.
1994 honorary award from the Austrian Ministry for Education and Science.
He attended master class with Alexander Jenner and the Altenberg-Trio Wien and gave concerts as soloist, member of chamber music ensembles as well as accompanist for singers, among others, with the Festival Strings Lucern, the clarinettist Sharon Kam, the Mozarteum Quartet Salzburg, the Koehne Quartet, the Ensemble Spektren and as piano duet with Dino Sequi. 2006 debut in Musikverein Wien with the Wiener Concert-Verein.
He interpreted numerous piano works in premières and made several CDs with contemporary piano music.
Since 1989 teaching activity at the Regional Music School “Landesmusikschule Marchtrenk”, since 2001 Head of the Department for keyboard instruments at the Music Schools of the Land of Upper Austria, since 2014 Director of the Music School of Schwanestadt.
